When you visit The Book Club – Shoreditch, you can choose from our bespoke cocktails, or if you prefer, one of the solid classic cocktails, including the Margarita.

In its classic form, the Margarita is a chilled mix of tequila, lime juice, and Triple Sec or Cointreau served in a glass with a salted rim. This makes the Margarita the flawless combination of sweet, salty, sour, and bitter.

Naturally, many people have claimed they invented the Margarita. One person was Carlos “Danny” Herrera, who claimed that in 1938 he conjured this classic cocktail for a customer and aspiring actress Marjorie King, who claimed to be allergic to all hard alcohol except tequila.

Another challenger for the title of the inventor is Dallas socialite Margarita Sames, who claimed she created the drink in 1948 for friends who included Tommy Hilton. He eventually added the classic cocktail to the bar menu at his hotel chain.

However, regardless of who brought the Margarita to life, its popularity has remained unshaken, unlike its ingredients. In the 1950s, the frozen Margarita gained popularity with the classic served over shaved ice until Mariano Martinez, a Dallas restauranteur, created a frozen margarita machine.

If you’re a connoisseur of classic cocktails, you’ll be pleased to know that The Book Club – Shoreditch still mixes Margaritas as they were originally intended. So, join us and raise a toast to the creativity, to whomever it may belong to, that gave us the Margarita.
