Known for his psychedelic character design, Fowler’s work has over the years, taken to a wide variety of media – most notably toy designs, print making, large-scale acrylic paintings, sculpture, custom synthesisers and music videos for the likes of The Horrors and Super Furry Animals. Fowler is also one half of the cosmic yacht rock musical duo, Seahawks.
For this show, Fowler has set sail on the cosmic oceans to meet and greet the oddballs that frequent the deep waters, as well as the freaks that bother the shoreline. Comprising of acrylic painted canvas’, drawings and a large scale mural on The Book Club’s wall. Theme From Boat Weirdos takes it’s starting point from a body of work Fowler showed at Outlaws Yacht Club in Leeds earlier in the year, hence the extended version referred to in the show’s title.
For the last few years Fowler has been drawing influence from nautical themes, reflecting his time spent boatbuilding on the Isles of Scilly post art school graduation and exploring themes with his music project, Seahawks. Combined with his love of myths, cosmic themes, synths and owls this body of work represents where Fowler’s charts have led him to creatively navigate through the noise of the 21st century.
Alongside the paintings and works on paper he will be creating a large size mural directly onto the wall of The Book Club that will reflect the themes of the show. Fowler has created various murals, indoors and outdoors, over the years from Osaka to Swansea with his last piece painted on the huge wall at Village Underground in London for a Tsunami fundraiser.
