Why is The Book Club one of the best Shoreditch cocktail bars?

A good cocktail bar has a great atmosphere and an excellent drinks menu beyond just cocktails. And The Book Club’s mix of dinks, including classic and contemporary beverages, is just one reason it is considered one of the best Shoreditch cocktail bars.

The classics

The gin and tonic is an undeniable classic and one of the simplest to prepare. Other time-honoured tipples include the Margarita, Pornstar Martini, Espresso Martini, Old Fashioned, Cosmopolitan, and Manhattan.

Few cocktails can hold a candle to the Old Fashioned, which is largely still made according to the oldest known cocktail recipe from the early 19th century.

In its classic form, the Margarita is a chilled mix of tequila, lime juice, and Triple Sec or Cointreau served in a glass with a salted rim, making it a flawless combination of sweet, salty, sour, and bitter.

The Manhattan is the quintessential cocktail for whiskey-lovers, with the wonderful mix of whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters loved for its subtle bitterness and herbal undertones.

The Cosmopolitan has had a rollercoaster existence in the booze culture, falling in and out of favour over the years. However, it was destined to be more than a cocktail du jour, significantly impacting cocktail culture.

Iconic and sophisticated, martinis have been enjoyed for more than a century. At The Book Club, we offer the Pornstar Martini, created by Douglas Ankrah in 2002, as a bold, sexy, and playful drink. The Espresso Martini has a relatively short history in the cocktail world, believed to have been invented in the early 1980s in London.

If you’re a connoisseur of classic cocktails, you’ll be pleased to know that The Book Club, undoubtedly one of the best Shoreditch cocktail bars, still mixes the classics as they were originally intended.

Signature cocktails

The best Shoreditch cocktail bars all have their own menu of signature drinks, the origins of which are passed down from bartenders and may be shared with guests if the opportunity arises. At The Book Club, our signature cocktails include:

  • Lady Fig
  • Winter Peach
  • Friday, I’m in Love
  • Cookie Kiss
  • Ginger Kiss
  • XOXO
  • Choc Orange Martini
  • Passion of Spice
  • Love to Lulu
  • Pink Life

Flavours on tap, in cans, and in bottles

The Book Club knows that its reputation as one of the best Shoreditch cocktail bars relies on more than just its mixed drinks. That’s why we have an extensive range of beer on tap, bottled and canned. Some of our ales include Hackney Hopster pale ale, Hobgoblin IPA, Shipyard APA, and 3 Weiss Monkeys White IPA.

Bubbles and beyond

Any establishment worth its title as the best Shoreditch cocktail bar will serve wine, prosecco, and champagne. Again, The Book Club ticks all the boxes.

Our red wines comprise the best offered by glass or bottle from Italy, Chile, Spain, and Argentina. On the other hand, our whites are sourced from South Africa, Italy and Chile, with rose wines from France and Italy.

Prosecco from Veneto in Northern Italy is made from the Glera grape variety and fermented through the ‘tank method’. This ensures a delicious fruit profile, including pear, apple, honeysuckle, and floral notes.

Of course, champagne comes from the Champagne region in France, and the method Champenoise is traditional, allowing the second fermentation to take place within the bottle for more autolytic flavours like bread, brioche, toast, and citrus fruit flavours.

There is no clear winner in the legendary champagne versus prosecco debate since both have distinct flavours, carbonation, aromas, and tastes. And any establishment claiming to be one of the best Shoreditch cocktail bars will have both.
